Week Seven: October 14-18

Announcements

This year, I want to try out a program called Class Dojo.  I have used it with second graders but not preschoolers and I would like to see how it works.  This program allows me to give points to each student when they are doing their job.  It is a great positive reinforcement tool to use in the classroom. At the end of the week, students will be allowed to "dojo shop" where they can use their points to "buy" things.  These things include picking from the prize box, a piece of candy, a good note home.  This will also help teach them to save and the responsibility that comes with having points to spend.  I do not plan on implementing this for a few weeks yet as it will be something completely new.  The other nice thing is that I can connect with parents on this app if you wish.  You will  be able to see how your child is doing and send me messages if you wish.  Like I said, I am a ways out yet for starting to use this in preschool so if you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Theme: Farm

This week we had a short week. We talked about farms and a lot about farm animals.  We learned about what animals live on a farm and what animals do not live on a farm.  We read a few silly books about farm animals and talked about the weather changing.  It is getting colder out and we plan to keep going outside for a while yet so please be sure to send coats with the kids!

Next week we are learning about pumpkins.  We will learn about what a pumpkin is, what it looks like inside and outside.  We will also begin to talk about the letter H.
